My Johan & Hart for his Halladay, Youk, & K. Morales - WHIR

Postby plapre3 » Thu Apr 23, 2009 10:39 am

Thank you all for the advice you have already given in another thread for structuring a deal. Now that I have a firm offer, I wanted to start a new one and see what you all think. Please remember that this is a keeper league and that we use two unconventional stat cats: OPS and Quality Starts minus Losses. So, I guess there are two questions:

1) Is this deal a good idea?
I get: Halladay, Youkilis and Kendry Morales
I give: Johan Santana and Corey Hart
2) I like Morales, but I don't really need him. Anyone else within the same range of value that I should ask for instead?

My thoughts: For this season, I don't feel like going from Johan to Halladay is a huge loss. However, Roy is 2 years older. How much does this hurt his value in a keeper league? Still, I feel that going from Hart to Youkilis is a huge upgrade because 1) Atkins sucks and I have OF depth and 2) Hart's lack of on base skills (.299 obp last year) hurts his OPS and thus diminishes his value in this league. Of course, I'll have much more flexibility with this trade and I'll be able to get Damon into my OF, with Atkins and Werth platooning at UTIL.

Finally, I'm thinking of throwing Atkins in the deal and asking for something else useful in return, but he will not give up Han-Ram or Billingsley. Honestly, I don't see any options.

My team:
C Bengie Molina
1B Adrian Gonzalez
2B Mark DeRosa
SS Michael Young
3B Garret Atkins
OF Carlos Beltran
OF Corey Hart
OF Adam Dunn (1B Eligible)
UT Jayson Werth
Bench: Mike Napoli, Billy Butler, Aaron Hill, Ryan Theriot, Johnny Damon, Cody Ross, Colby Rasmus (still eligible for minors)

SP (Start 5) Johan Santana, Chris Young, Kevin Slowey, Wandy Rodriguez, Oliver Perez
RP (Start 3) Joe Nathan, Joakim Soria, Heath Bell
Bench: Mark Buehrle, Paul Maholm

His Team:
C Jorge Posada
1B Kevin Youkilis
2B Akinori Iwamura
SS Hanley Ramirez
3B Ryan Zimmerman
OF Kosuke Fukudome
OF Wily Taveras
OF Chase Headley
UT Jason Kubel
Bench: Hank Blalock, Josh Fields, Nyger Morgan, Pat Burrell, Kendry Morales, Randy Winn, Jordan Schafer (still eligible for minors)

SP (Start 5) Roy Halladay, Chad Billingsley, AJ Burnett, Gavin Floyd, Cliff Lee
RP (Start 3) Jonathan Papelbon, Jose Valverde, Kerry Wood
Bench: Brad Penny, Ben Sheets

Minor Leagues: Kyle Blanks (1B-SD), Matt Dominguez (3B-Fla), Alcides Escobar (SS-Mil), Wilmer Flores (3B-NYNL), Jonathan Niese (SP-NYNL)

6x6 weekly HtH 14 team roto keeper (between 5 and 10 keepers (no time limits or costs), losing a draft pick for each after 5)
Offensive Categories: BA, OPS, RBI, HR, SB and Runs Scored.
Pitching Categories: W, S, ERA, K/IP, Quality Starts minus Losses, and WHIP
Minors: 5 "free" keepers. These players if are eligible to be kept without the loss of a draft pick and in addition to the max of 10. They must have under 200 Ab or less than 75 IP and 20 APP.

Waiver Wire:
Hitters: Mike Jacobs (1B), Asdrubal Cabrera (2B), Dallas McPherson (3B), Russel Branyan (3B), Aaron Rowand (OF),
Pitchers: Nick Blackburn, Dave Bush, Shairon Martis, Doug Davis, Jorge De La Rosa, Cha Seung Baek, David Aardsma, Jamie Moyer

Thank you all in advance and as always, leave a link.

Hey, thanks for the help with mine! I have never participated in a keeper league so I don't want to give you crappy advice, but I agree with the previous poster, try and hold onto Johan (#1 pitcher in baseball,) but def try and nab Youkilis.

A quick note: This guy will not consider trading unless he's getting Johan back. He's a Met fan, apparently.

So, only a modification of the above deal seems to be an option.

Thanks

I'd be ok giving up Santana, but in a keeper I'd probably go after Billingsly instead of Doc. Santana to Bills isn't a HUGE drop off but you do get the better offensive player in the deal. Help with mine? viewtopic.php?t=380462

Thanks for help on mine. I also am not knowledgeable re keeper leagues, but in this case it doesn't matter: if you have to trade Santana, I would not do this deal/modified. As much as I like Youkilis and also Halladay, I think Santana is going to as good as ever this year, and as an added factor (back to the keeper league part), he is a lot younger than people seem to think.

I posted another offer just got (Morneau/Kershaw v. Ludwick/Wainwright) - your thoughts?

I would say no to this because I am not big on Morales anymore and he doesn't have a strong OF so you can't really go after another OFer. You should Doc and one of his other SP's for Santana.

After all of your advice, I saw the light and declined. He countered by dropping Hart and Morales from the deal. It's now:

Halladay and Youkilis for Johan.

I'd be crazy not to take this, right?

Take that deal and run! You are getting 2 great players for one.

Thanks for the help.
