Do I need SP or RP more?

Postby cards_fan_8537 » Fri Mar 12, 2004 3:53 pm

Hey. Just wanting to see where others think I should concentrate, and also wanted to try out the posting roster thing. :-D Do I need to go for more SP or RP? I have Sheff on waivers (3/15) and a trade proposed Chipper for Oswalt.

A stud SP like, I don't know, Oswalt :-D would make that staff look a lot better. If Wagner and Isringhausen stay healthy all year it might be all you need, but a cheap backup wouldn't hurt.

Escobar is starting and Williamson is setting up for Foulke...and I don't see Foulke going down anytime soon.

I'd say get another reliever if possible.

By a trade I'm assuming because there aren't many left in FA. What would you recmmend? Put a couple of mine in a package deal for another top notch closer?

I might try and package Ortiz (will struggle as a #1 w/ less offense than last year) and Escobar (people are really high on him and I don't know why). If someone else has a couple of studs, and needs SP you might be able to pull it off.

If not you might be able to move one of them for someone like Mantei, Hoffman or Borowski. Also, see if Danny Graves is available as a FA or cheap in a trade. He has always excelled as a closer and is being overlooked in most leagues.

Since holds count the same as saves I bet you can get better value by looking for the stud middle relief. Who has Marte, and are they sold on him (explain how he wont be their closer even if Koch suffers)? What about Donnelly? Tom Gordon, Latroy Hawkins, Mota, Hasegawa, K-Rod, or Quantrill are all options for you.

As of right now you are pretty much punting holds.

You have a lot of OFs too, your Bench is good and has a lot of them. Try to package and OF and RP.
