Pitching assistance??

Postby bjmacdow » Wed Apr 22, 2009 1:08 pm

Hey all,

It is great that baseball is back in full swing. Here is my team:

C-Russell Martin SP-Derek Lowe
1b-Albert Pujols SP-Roy Halladay
2b-Aaron Hill RP-Joe Nathan
3b-Mark Reynolds RP-George Sherrill
SS- Derek Jeter RP-Brad Lidge
OF-Carlos Beltrán SP-Edinson Volquez
OF-Denard Span SP-Ricky Nolasco
OF-Nate McLouth SP-Randy Johnson
Util-Nyjer Morgan RP (DL'ed; but on bench) Trevor Hoffman
BN-Travis Snider
BN-Howie Kendrick
BN-Jason Bartlett
DL-Álex Rodríguez

I had Kendrick in at 2b and he has been awful, should I give up on him yet? I picked up Jason Bartlett for Ubaldo today as I can't take another train wreck from him and don't know if he is for real or not. I picked him up late last year and he was decent for me. AROD is coming off the DL soon and I am hoping to package Mark Reynolds and an outfielder to upgrade elsewhere when that happens. For now, my questions involves pitching, whether to make a move, and if so, who to drop.
The pitchers available in FA are Wandy Rodriguez and Kyle Davies. I like what I have seen from both this year and liked Wandy last year too. My options to drop are Kendrick (want to see if he rebounds, a lot is expected from him this year and he has hit when given previous opportunities), Travis Snider (is he going to stay productive?, some say yes), Nyjer Morgan (high average, will it last? Not a lot of power, has steal potential), Randy Johnson has been dreadful and excellent already this season, I don't think I am considering Volquez or Nolasco just yet.
So, looking at my team, do you stand pat or do you pick up one or both of Wandy and Davies off the FA list, and if you pick one of them up, who do you drop to pick them up. Thanks so much for your thoughts. This team is a cellar dwellar right now and I am hoping to turn it around. Please leave a link and I will comment on yours.

I would drop Kendrick and Bartlett. You have solid guys at those positions already. Definitely grab those 2 though, should see some good things from them.

Hmmm...I am not sure why; but I tried to put my pitchers next to my batters and that part didn't post!

I have
SP-D Lowe
SP-R Halladay
RP-Joe Nathan
RP-George Sherrill
Rp-Brad LIdge
SP-E. Volquez
SP-R. Nolasco
SP-R. Johnson
Rp-(DL/BN) Trevor Hoffman

Dropping Kendrick and Bartlett and keeping all of the potentially good outfielders? Span, Morgan, and Travis Snider? Keep Randy Johnson? Any other thoughts are appreciated.

I would say your first priority is to improve that outfield. Maybe try to move one of your closers for a guy like Upton who you can probably buy low on with his injury and slow start. Kemp is another rising star, but he's had a fast start so it might be more difficult but those are a couple options.

I'd drop Morgan for Wandy. I see Morgan as a bargain source for steals, perhaps, but I don't see him producing for average consistently. It looks like you should deal some pitching to improve your offense, namely OF.

Wandy shouldn't be available so pick him up. Morgan or Kendrick should be dropped for him. I would try to flip Reynolds but why not use him as your UT?
