Davies or Price?

Postby reverend » Wed Apr 22, 2009 11:48 am

Yahoo 5x5 h2h 12 team mixed

Which pitcher will help me long term or have more trade value?

I already have Halladay, Harden, Bedard, Wainwright, Galarraga, as starters. So I could deal from stregnth later on.

Also is Alexei Ramirez, John Baker, and Pat Burrell for Matt Kemp and Ramon Hernandez a good trade if you have Mauer coming back in a week? I would be left with Khalil Greene at SS for time being.

I would do that deal for Kemp. I think K Greene will exceed expectations this year, probably not do as well as Ramirez, but who knows with the start he is off to - I think that one is a no brainer since Kemp could put up 1st rounder numbers this year.

I wouldn't trust Gallaraga as a 5th starter. I think Price has more potential than Davies so if you can afford to wait it out for a month or two. If Price gets called up and has a couple lights out starts (which is likely first time through the league), then his trade value could be very high. Davies will always have a lower trade value like any player on the Royals not named Greinke.

Davies has only been pitching three years in the bigs, was born in '83 and this could be his breakout year. First season, 11 games, 6.66ERA, 1.78 WHIP, Second Season, 21 Games, 4.06 ERA, 1.45 WHIP. That is drastic improvement and he can improve on them this year. It is too early to blow him off because his short career WHIP is over 1.6.

Correction: This is Davies' 5th year. If this is Davies' breakout year, I'll buy you a Brian Bannister . . .
