Trade Advice (Involving Chase Utley) WHIR

Postby MsFan24 » Wed Apr 22, 2009 2:42 am

In my 10-team pay league I was offered Brandon Webb and Cole Hamels for Chase Utley. I have Utley.

I also have Brandon Phillips which gives me some flexibility at 2B, but he hasn't gotten off to a good start and has really only had one great year, so I'm hesitant to make him a starter.

My two best SP are Bedard and Carlos Zambrano so as you can see, I am a little light on pitching which makes this offer appealing.

Both pitchers are struggling but will likely snap out of their funk.

What do you guys think?

I'd pull the trigger with you already having a good 2B to fill in for Utley. You'll be getting 2 top 10 pitchers out of the deal.

Personally I would love to have Utley on my team, so I would see if I could get one of those Aces for Phillips or something like that. While I think it is a good trade, I would be greedy at first and see if you could hang on to utz while obtaining at least one of those guys... good luck

Pretty good deal for Utely with Philips waiting in the wings.

I'd do it.

See if you could swing a deal for Halladay or try and land Adam Wainwright but Phillips. This guy is trying to dump his pitching problems on you now. I have Hamels and I am trying to move him asap.

explore some other options while you wait to see Hamels' next start and to hear if there is any updates on Webb's return. In the end I think you'll make this trade, the risk is worth the reward.

Hold on to Chase. In a 10 team league you should be able to find some good pitching on the waiver wire. I am not big on Hamels this year and Webb looked bad his first start, I am sure they will rebound but its not worth Utley.

Don't do the trade. Both Hamels and Webb have arm problems and for a pitcher this could destroy their season. Utley is a great 2nd and Phillips is a good one. I would try to move Phillips if I was going to trade a 2nd.

Solid value, but I'd be concerned about Hamels. Does he have another top-tier starter you can ask for?

...and can you return the favor? viewtopic.php?t=380250

Thanks for the help.

I'm currently shopping Phillips, but due to his slow start he isn't really generating much interest. On the other hand, everyone wants Utley because of his rapid start.

I'm concerned about both pitchers arm problems and slow starts. Otherwise, I would have accepted this deal already. Hamels and Webb, when on their game, are two of the top pitchers, but there are obviously some concerns right now.

All opinions are welcome.
