Who to Stash On Your DL: Smoltz or Escobar?

Postby ReincarnatedIntoCansecoBiceps » Tue Apr 21, 2009 6:16 pm

Both will be coming back as permenant pitchers in the rotation by May or early June. Both play for good teams that can get them wins. Both pitchers can get you strikeouts, have about the same WHIP, and will most likely have the same ERA this year. The Smoltz has shown no signs of aging, its tough to say how hes going to be after a big surgery. Escobar is younger and has dealt with this type of injury his whole career as he was born without this specific muscle in his shoulders.

Who do you bank your money on? I currently have Smotlz on my DL, but now that Escobar had been dropped to the waivers recently, I'm not sure if should pick him up instead.

I have them both stashed on one team in one of my leagues. If I had to choose, I think I would pick Escobar over Smoltz right now, simply because we don't know Smoltz' role when he returns. There is no doubt that Escobar will return in a starting role for the Angels, given all of the injuries/tragedies they've endured this season.

I would go with Escobar. The Sox have Masterson, DiceK, Beckett, Lester, Penny, Wakefield, and Bucholz as available starters

I choose Smoltz simply because Escobar has had so many setbacks in recent years I think he's far less likely to come back and stay healthy then Smoltz. Also I think Smoltz is a better pitcher. But the others are right in that Escobar will start and Smoltz maybe will, maybe won't. I think he will at some point and I think he'll make more starts then Escobar because I think Escobar will get hurt again.

I have them both on DL in my money leagues. Smoltz will start when he gets back. May work him into the rotation after one or 2 appearances, but he will start.

I have Escobar and if Smoltz clears waivers, he'll be sitting safely on my DL as well

Escobar was just moved to the 60-day DL. He's a ways away.

Now what's the consensus since both are rehabbing? Escobar might be further ahead, but who would you rather have this season?
