I love the fact that Jesus Montero was added, as a Yankee fan I have dreams of him being a huge bat that sticks at Catcher. Not sure they are realistic dreams, but why does a fan have to be realistic about his team?!?!
But if you want to be realistic, and are interested in him for fantasy purposes, you should understand that my guess is that he is 2 years away. They promoted him to AA not because he is almost ready, but because they want him to catch more often.
They love Cervelli (who still has options), have Jose Molina on the DL, and Kevin Cash is organizational depth if something happens to Posada or Cervelli before Molina is better.
Molina's contract is up this year, and my guess is the Yankees' plan for 2010 is Posada/Cervelli and another interchangeable journeyman like Cash for depth. Then in 2011, if he develops defensively, maybe Montero.
So, be patient, I doubt Montero even gets a cup of coffee in the bigs this year.
There are a few things with the New York Yankees that never change. That's pride, tradition, and most of all, we have the greatest fans in the world. -Derek Jeter, 9/21/08 -- last words from old Yankee Stadium
