Willy T - Getting On Base But Not Stealing

last year, willy couldn't get on base, but when he did, it was better than a 50% shot he'd attempt to steal (and at a very high success rate, at that).

this year, he's getting on at a ridiculous .409 clip. 10 hits, 6 walks, and at least on HBP that i recall. but only 3 stolen base attempts (all successful).

certainly, dusty's not throwing up red lights, and since when has willy shown restraint on the basepaths?

methinks something else is afoot. wondering if anyone has any inside insight, here.

No Info from me... but Im not concerned. He usually goes on a tear at some point and starts stealing 5-7 bags a week... Historically this hasnt been this early in the season... Does anyone else know anything?

Makes no sense to me - I owned him for a bit (but had to drop him for pitching) so I watched as much Reds baseball as I could stomach. One thing that is pretty obvious is that offense absolutely sucks, which necessitates his running all the more. He's not going to score a lot of runs waiting for the rest of that team to bat him in.

btw, that offense will improve by mid-year. the approach is vastly different this year (taking more pitches, going with the ball, etc), so it might take some time for everyone to get a handle on it. i think it'll bear fruit.

Ive watched alot of their games and have seen him run on three different occasions and then have the two hitter foul a ball off or hit it in play. Also, he just played a series against the Stros' and Pudge Rodriguez. I wouldnt fret, theyre going to come.
