Dice-K dropped, 1st Waiver spot. WHIR!

Postby dloke » Mon Apr 20, 2009 10:57 pm

So Dice's owner just dropped him for Ben Zobrist (don't ask) and I am sitting with the first waiver claim. Do I use it on him? He's a maddening pitcher to own (had him last year) but it seems like something I have to do, especially considering how weak my staff is. Despite the move I play in a pretty savvy league so someone like Wieters has already been drafted (and I'm keeping an eye on Hanson). Thoughts?

I agree....he sucks this year...and he has a "tired arm" after a couple weeks of pitching...but youve got to do this!! If you play to win...you have to take him and hope for the best....if it were me, id drop either Franklin or Lilly to grab him...but yes....get Dice K...its doubtful another owner will make a drop THIS BIG all year....so use your top waiver spot and lock him up!!!

Yes, I would claim him, but I would drop Napoli.

Yeah, I think you use the waiver spot (unless you know this group, and think there's going to be a huge star dropped). I agree with the Napoli drop. Since Sandoval doesn't really play at C, he should be out there almost every day. I know Franklin's hold on the closer job is in question, but in a roto league I like the idea of milking it for as many saves as possible while it lasts.

Bostons Second Pitcher, take him without a doubt, he is the World Baseball Classic MVP two years in a row and once he gets past this rested DL time will be a stud again. He always shows a good era and wins come with Boston. no brainer imo.

I agree with Pappymojo here. I would drop Napoli. It will probably take a while to trade Napoli for a RP. IF you league works like mine, and you made a trade today, it would still take 3 days to go through. The WW period is only 3 days, in my league at least, too. So, it's a decision you probly have to make quickly. The potential of 14-16 games of winning baseball with Dice-K is better than the potential 18-20 hr's and sub .270 BA from Napoli (IF you even play him every day). You already have another catcher.

Drop Napoli, you don't need two catchers. Dice-K will come around.
