A guy in my league is really willing to deal with me, and he's made some dumb moves in the past, but he's really being difficult in these negotiations. I'm going to our respective rosters; any ideas on where we match up for a trade?
Update: The guy has now countered with his "final offer," this deal: Halladay, Youkilis and Kendry Morales for Johan Santana and Corey Hart
He began by offering: Halladay, Youkilis and Burrell for Santana and Beltran, but I obviously balked at that. I countered asking for something substantially more, but he wrote back with this: "I'm wondering if there's any way at all i can get Johan and Beltran without parting with Billingsley or Hanley. Everyone else on my team is on the block..."
So, I guess the questions becomes, is there a way to do this and still make out good?

What do you think of Halladay, Billingsly and Youkilis for Santana, Chris Young and Beltran.
You will lose steals in Beltran, but HR and RBI will be even with Youk and you'll gain average. Santana is great, but Halladay is just below him and you're jumping from Young (so-so) to Billingsly, who could be a Cy Young contender in a year or two...but has a great upside this year. Nice park, weak hitting division, good offensive team.
I really like Da Rook's idea. You may even be better off with Halladay and Billingsley instead of Johan. You only downgrade one cat (SB) but likely impove all your pitching. If you can get hin to do this deal, you win.
Thanks for the help. I'd say you shouldn't worry about dealing Beltran here. He apparently has a sore quad, and has barely attempted a steal. The one game I actually saw him run, it turned into a pseudo hit-and-run and he got doubled up. Beltran, Santana and Chris Young for Billingsley, Halladay and Youk? You kidding me? Propose that deal right now. Billingsley has ace stuff on a team with a good lineup, Halladay is always an ace and Youk has the stuff to follow up his monster year with another one. You would get tighter in the infield and you have the outfield depth with Werth and Ross to withstand the loss right now. You get a huge upgrade over Young and only lose a little of Santana like the other guy said. Your only worry should be the injury risk with Halladay but that's always a risk and you should take it.
I agree with the Da Rook too. Halladay/Bills is much better than Johna /Young. Yes Beltran is better than Youk but the difference is the better pitching you would be getting makes up for that!
If he's not willing to deal Bills or Han-Ram, I don't see a good deal here. He's trying to get your 1st AND 2nd round picks for crying out loud. I'm not optimistic of you trading with this guy. Anyway, sounds like he needs the deal more than you.
A trade is usually only successful if both parties are giving up something. I typically only like to trade from a position of strength and have my strength be another guy's weakness. I dont' like that you can't even touch Han-Ram or Bills and he is asking for arguably your best player. I agree with another poster that he needs the trade more than you. The difficult thing is that your team is pretty solid across the board. I was looking and the only people (minus Hanley and Chad) from his team would be Halladay, Papelbon, and Youk. You really don't need Papelbon as you have 3 decent closers. Halladay and Youk would be nice. You could put Youk at 3rd and move Atkins out, but I don't think that's worth losing Santana. I would sit pat.
