Do you currently own both of them? I would try to keep them both if you do. If you are trading one of them, you would probably get more value for Greinke right now. People will look at Haren and say ouch he is 0-3 and many unattentive owners will think he is off to a bad start despite the great numbers. That being said if you are trying to get one of them in a trade Haren will most likely come most easily.
If I were picking I would want to end up with Greinke. I have always liked him, and Haren never pitches well in the second half of the season. I wouldnt mind having either of them.
I'd go with Haren. Both are young and on so-so offensive teams in hitter's parks; so with that said, I would take Haren due to the fact that he is in the NL and its the NL West, where aside from LA have poor hitting teams.
It was meant to be more of an open-ended "who would you rather have" for both now and the future. I was purposely looking for opinions just based on comparison alone, sometimes its helpful for me I find.
I am trying to trade FOR either one of them, they have the same owner. The comparison is helpful as I am having a hard time deciding which to make an offer for first, hence the help of a ranking. I have always been a fan of Haren since his Oakland days, and his K potential that he developed last year makes him attractive. However, I find Greinke to maybe have more upside, but with a lack of track record and playing in a division as unpredictable as the AL Central.
Just a general ranking would be fantasticly helpful so I can start formulating offers.
i dont' think division strength will be much of a factor for these two... both are nasty and they won't let even the good hitting teams beat up on them very much.
if you're making a play for one, then greinke is the way to go. i think his stuff is just as good as anyones (really, anyone!) and yet he was drafted many rounds after haren. both have lots of upside (both young, so you really can't go wrong with either on your team; they'll both be in contention for their Cy Young awards.
do it for grienke, as you probably won't have to give up as much, assuming the other manager isn't wise to this
Love Greinke, but I'd rather have Haren. I won't be surprised if Greinke blossoms into a top 10 ace, but Haren already is one and is stingier in surrendering walks with no letup in strikeouts.
