Brandon Wood

Postby ThumperHawk » Mon Apr 20, 2009 1:23 pm

From CBS:
At the end of spring, Mike Scioscia was looking for an excuse to keep Brandon Wood. Well, he doesn't need an excuse now. Wood seemed ready to play in the big leagues at the end of spring, and after homering in four of his first five games at Triple-A, he is even more ready now.

Wood has immense power potential and eligibility at third base and shortstop. Consider him a flier in deeper formats right now, especially if you have a need at his positions. The Angels could call him up early this week and slot him as their DH with Vladimir Guerrero on the DL for at least a month.

Has anyone else heard this might be a possibility? I have Wood on my bench in a keeper league and would love to slot him in at SS until J.J. Hardy starts hitting above 0.114.

I have no evidence to present at all, but I had a few flyers and rosters spot to burn in a 16, 12, and 10 team leagues. I don't think I would added him if I didn't have the Carlos Villenuea's of the world on my roster right now.

Hopefully, I'll prove myself wrong on the later :)

That was the big "rumor" when Vlad went down, but they called up two pitchers to fill the roster spots since their bullpen has been uber taxed. The next "rumor" is that he may get called up when there main pitchers get called back in the next few weeks (Lackey, Santana, etc) because they definitely need the extra umph in their lineup. Maicer Izturis at DH is disgraceful and I'm not an Angels fan. I'm holding onto Wood for now (14 team league)...

apparently there was talk today about the angels making roster moves tomorrow.

http://www.forums.mlb.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?tsn=1&nav=messages&webtag=ml-angels&tid=102118

a lot of the posts are kinda useless in terms of whether he's actually getting called up, but it is something.

Here's to hoping that he makes good of this chance...Wood has been called up per Rotoworld:

http://www.rotoworld.com/content/player ... LB&id=1351

Angels recalled infielder Brandon Wood from Triple-A Salt Lake.
It remains to be seen how the Angels will deploy him, but the power-hitting infielder is a must-add in AL-only leagues and someone to watch closely in deeper mixed leagues. Not only does Wood have 3B and SS eligibility in many formats, but he also possesses legitimate power -- he was hitting .346 with four homers and eight RBI in Triple-A at the time of his callup.

14 HR's 43 RBI and .250 AVG, and that's being generous. This guy is WAY over-hyped. A carrer .191 Major League hitter who has walked 4 times in 190 PA's. 2.66 Minor League K/BB Ratio. Sure his 19 HR/AB ratio in the minors is nice, but nothing I want to jump at. He did most of his damage in the PCL and CALL. Notorious Hitter's Leagues. Say hello to Rob Deer meets Corey Snyder. :-X
