Considering trading Teixeira.

Postby Southern Illinois Cardinals Fan » Mon Apr 20, 2009 7:48 am

Hi guys. I know this may sound stupid but hear me out. I am considering trading Teixeira for a deal involving Joey Votto. I know that Teixeira usually takes a while to heat up and at that point I would consider it.

This trade would me in a 14 team 6x6 roto (Holds and OBP) salary league. I am currently under the 90m cap by 9.5m. Overall my team is not too bad but I could use pitching help.

Teixeira is signed for 2 more years at 9m.
Votto on the other hand is signed for 4 more years at 600k.

If I were to do this trade I could still have a power 1B but I would be under cap by nearly 20m. This would give me the opportunity to do a serious makeover for my pitching (Shields, Hamels, Guthrie, Young, and Jurrjens starting with Bell, Cordero, Kuo, and Bruney relief) and OF (my best OF's are Hawpe, Werth, and Carlos Gomez).

Some of the names that will be available: Nolasco, Lidge, Youkilis, Cliff Lee, Bradley, Joe Nathan, Fuentes, Gavin Floyd, Maggs, Ervin Santana (signed at league minimum right now), Penny, Rivera. Besides all of them, several other players will be cut to make roster space. I will take a guess at saying several top rookies will be available.

So considering all of that, would you consider a trade involving these guys? I don't know what the final offer would be considering the enormous difference in salary.

To view my team, go to http://www.editgrid.com/user/cashmansjob/Team_Manager_2.0 and view the Orioles. His team is the Rangers.

What you are saying makes sense, and aside from all the salary considerations, etc., while I do like Tex, I don't think he is the superstar some people believe, and also think as we get further into the season (as well as next few years), there is going to be less and less of a gap between Tex and Votto. Not to mention I like what Cinn is doing with their lineup and like their ballpark.

Hope this helps. Can you help with mine - I do not know how to leave link but it is post made earlier today involving trade involving Suzuki/Cordero. Thanks.

Well..I love Tex...although you make a very solid point, I think once Arod is back protecting him that he is going to explode. I think this lineup is loaded with RBI for him, and the way I watched the ball JUMP out to rightfield at the new Yankee Stadium, I think he is a 40 HR guy this year. Its early, he was banged up, and is a slow starter...but by Memorial Day...I doubt you'll be in the mood to trade him.

Thanks for the response. I see him closer to 30 HR's and while I feel he will get a ton of RBI's, is he really worth the extra 8.5m I am paying and 2 years less?

Anyone else. I was also thinking about waiting until the deadline or until the offseason to trade him. Maybe sell him when his value is high.

I would hang on. Tex with Arod= huge year. I have owned Tex about 3 times in last 5 years and he is money after his notorious slow start. Grit your teeth, hold for now and enjoy Tex from Mid May on. You won't regret doing it.

good luck

help?

Hold him for now. You'll always get interest in Tex and his value will most likely be up by the time we're midway through summer. While what you're saying makes a lot of sense (and is the type of move that I would do in that league), you're in no rush. Only pull a trade this early if you're 99% sure you're the winner.
