So to start off the year, my pitching is godawful. Webb's on the DL. Going into today, I'm 10th, 11th or 12th in every pitching category in my 12 team roto league.
I like keeping 2 middle relievers on my team to shore up my ratios, but I've had terrible luck with them so far. I dropped Rafael Perez for Ramon Ramirez recently, but Perez did a lot of damage. Kuo's been awful.
So, here's my question:should I drop Kuo to stash Phil Hughes, who might get the call-up in New York to replace Wang? As you can see, we play with deep rosters, and it's a very active league, so Hughes when playing is probably a better option than any pitcher on the WW. What do you think?
WHIR as always...leave a link.

I would do it. I don't see how they can keep letting Wang go out and losing them a game every 5 days. But I am also trying to trade for Hughes in a 20 teamer so I may be bias here.
I think stashing Hughes is reasonable, assuming there are no other FA options. It's not certain Hughes gets called up any time soon, so keep an eye on the news, other prospects, and the FA SP. There may be someone else to jump on in a week or so.
I like the middle reliever strategy, but when you're down this far you need some quality IP.
As for the MR strategy, it's probably not worth it to just have one MR without any chance of becoming a closer, no matter how good his ratios, correct? I basically need 2 to make the strategy work, right? So should I drop Ramirez for another SP, maybe Anibal Sanchez?

I wouldn't say that. I've had some years in a roto league where the ratios end up very close. 30 ip with a 1-something era could be the difference. Otoh, if you're high on Sanchez, go for it, just don't drop a pitcher with good ratios because you don't think he'll be 'enough'.

Agreed. Every bit helps. I'd rather have one good MR with good ratios then a back end SP.
