Trade involving a Prospect

Postby TMAC2DARAKBABY » Sat Apr 18, 2009 9:07 pm

well Im talking to a team about sending JChamberlain & an average SS 4 Alexei Ramirez plus a prospect.

I'm looking at 3 names from his farm:
1- Matt Dominguez
2. Greg Halman
3. Jason Donald

Any thoughts on them? I need some info

Funny. Two of those guys are on my team. Here's a quick snapshot:

41 - Dominguez, Matt. Fla. Age 19.7 starting in Hi-A. ETA late 2011. Needs to improve his K rate. Good contact hitter but some concerns about his power. His age means that the power can develop.
52 - Halman, Greg. Sea. Age 21.7 in AA. ETA late 2010. Serious contact problems, but interesting HR/SB threat. High ceiling guy, but the chances of seeing that ceiling are low. See my comments in the 2009 Minor League Thread for concerns about his K rate.
97 - Donald, Jason. Phi. Age 24.6 in AAA. ETA late 2009. Best eye of the three, but also the lowest ceiling. Average tools, high effort guy. He might not have a position as scouts believe he doesn't have the arm for 3b or the range for SS.
In my fridge: Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KBS), Central Waters Peruvian Morning, Bell's Batch 10,000, Dale's Pale Ale, Capital Brewery Amber, New Glarus Moon Man, and Guinness.

Dominguez will be the best of the three and he's hit for decent power so far which was more than what was initially expected. I wouldn't be surprised if he turns out valuable than Moustakas (HS teammate) if both play 3B. His glove work will also assure him of a major league career. I've heard Scott Rolen and Eric Chavez comparisons.

Yup, I really like Dominguez as well. Halman has a very nice ceiling to him but at his current rate he's going to come no where near it. McDonald is pretty much run of the mill as far as prospects go.

Halman
Dominguez
Donald

Dominguez has a good bat but it's nothing special (keep in mind his '08 stats were largely the result of a hitter-friendly park; road line: .246/.296/.392). I don't think he'll ever be a top 10 fantasy 3B. Halman, despite his contact issues, has serious 30/30 potential and easily has the most fantasy value of the three.
