I like the stuff, watched him a bit last night, but here is my concern. He recorded the vast majority of his outs by fly ball. He simply can't do that in Arlington, or he'll get shelled. However, if he does get a starting rotation spot, he could be an interesting candidate to start on the road since his flyballs won't be nearly as hazardous in road ballparks.

he doesnt give up hard hit fly balls, they are usually pretty lazy popups.
He pitched in a hitter friendly cal league in high A and wasn't prone to the homerun there.
He gave up 3 total regular season home runs in the minors in 08 and averaged about 10k/9.

Vicente Padilla strained his shoulder in a bullpen session and Derek Holland will be making at least 2-3 starts while hes on the DL.
The first will be tomorrow vs Houston.

He had a 1 point something ERA before his last bullpen outing in which he gave up 4 or 5 runs and tripled his ERA, though A) he got squeezed, and gameday agreed, B) The guy who relieved him allowed 2 of the runs to score with 2 outs, C) He still looked pretty good aside from one meatball pitch. So im pretty optimistic.

Obviously he will be on a pitchcount in his transitional start though. Hope he does well enough to stay in the rotation.

5 IP, 2 hits (both soft), 3 Ks so far, lookin sharp!

Houston isn't much of an offense, but they are very right handed (or switch) so vs him they are a decent matchup.

edit: blah at the 6th.
2 quick outs.
bunt hit.
soft grounder up the middle an inch out of kinslers range,
..and berkman hits a HR.

now his outing will be 5 2/3, 3 ER and 5 hits.. but he really was good. Oh well

I don't know that his stats are reflecting it yet, but if you own him in a keeper/dynasty you should be excited about the future. He certainly looks like he belongs and can succeed at this level.

I agree, I just hope they give him a chance (in the rotation) to prove it!! ;-D

Rare to find left handers that can throw 95-97 consistently. This guy should be a stud if the Rangers A) Don't abuse his arm. B) Don't keep him up if he obviously needs more AAA time and C) Don't trade him for an aging star like they are prone in doing.

Sean Tracey has my apologies, we all know Ozzie Guillen is an idiot. I'm rooting for you!
