can anybody just be DLed at any time? can you DL a player just bc he is sucking to free up roster space...even if no injury is there?

it seems like players are put on teh DL all the time with no real injury. does nobody police this?

I was wondering the same thing the other day...i've seen "tired arm" used quite a few times. i guess one reason teams dont abuse it is the player cant be brought back for 15 days, beyond that i dont know if it's policed or when they can go on a ML rehab, etc

I think as long as a the team doctor or whatever signs off on it any player could be DLed. You see pitchers DLed all the time for arm fatigue to limit their innings.

If Dontrelle can be DL'd for anxiety disorder I'm pretty sure they can use any excuse to shut down a pitcher.

Thats a fantastic point that I wouldn't have thought of myself. I doubt a physician is sent to evaluate every single player that goes on the DL, and if they are, well, the player can just be asked to fake anxiety or bad headaches or something.

Teams use the DL a lot to get around the Rule 5 problems (keeping them on the roster all year)

Its not a stretch to say Wang is "hurting" or "fatigued" and they place him on the DL, there have been worse uses of it and everyone just kinda shrugs at it and moves on when it happens

He'll be up soon if he keeps pitching well. Wang clearly has issues and if Hughes is dominating then there is no reason to waste those bullets at AAA.

Baseball Tonight just confirmed that Wang will go on the DL for "Hip Weakness," and Buster Olney states that Hughes will get the call (as to be expected).

I'm surprised no one bumped this thread yet... Hughes the scheduled Yankee starter tonight in Detroit.

Last year was tough for Hughes, between the hyped expectations and then injury. So this spring I was glad he was the #6 starter behind a solid rotation so when he came up there wouldn't be such pressure.

Hmmm... No pressure? Yanks on a losing streak, worst starting pitcher ERA, bullpen inconsistent, injuries, not hitting, locals in NY over reacting as usual about the season collapsing. So much for the idea of lower pressure on him.

Lets see what he's got!
