Last 7/15 or BVP (batter vs pitcher)

When setting your lineup which do you "weigh" more heavily:
recent performance (last 7 or last 15) -OR- batter vs. pitcher stats???

[The scenario is 2 equal players that play the same position one is on fire in the past 7 or 15 games, but with bad numbers vs. the probably pitcher and ONE with a cold bat, but amazing numbers vs. the probable pitcher... who do you choose?]

I wonder if there are any stats about which strategy works out better.

unless the cold player is drafted in the first 5 or so rounds, i tend to ride the hot bat. especially when there is a large variance between how hot and how cold the respective players are. ;-D
