Sit tight or start my SP...? WHIR

Postby lachlanoddy » Thu Apr 16, 2009 9:34 am

Daily lineup
10 team, H2H, NON keeper league
R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OPS, K, CYC
W, SV, HLD, K, ERA, WHIP, CG, NH

I am trying to work out if I should sit tight with my current lead in pitching stats, or whether I should start all of my guys and risk blowing the leads I already have...

Current situation

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,ME...........HIM
IP..........25.............11.2
W ....... ...2..............2
SV ..........1..............0
HLD.........0..............1
K...........33.............13
ERA......1.08...........6.94
WHIP.....0.60..........1.63

My remaining SP starts this week are:
Liriano vs Toronto
Felix Hernandez vs Detroit
Carlos Zambrano vs St Louis
Chad Billingsley vs Colorado
Matt Garza vs Chicago White Sox
Ted Lilly vs Saint Louis

My opponent has a max 4 more starts this week.

I have no one to challenge holds with, but I really should be able to pull out wins and saves if I play all my guys. Wins I think should be a lock, saves perhaps not, Ks I have locked.
Or should I pick a select few starts only...? In which case which ones...?

This is the second week in a row where I have seen this kind of dilemma early in the week. Last week I started everyone and ended up blowing ERA and WHIP, and gaining only W, resulting in a net loss of 1 category,,,

Any thoughts...?

I like your current situation in ERA & WHIP, you should have those locked up even with a few more starts - I don't think you'll need to start all of your guys, a few key ones would probably be best. You said he has 4 more starts max, he'll probably run them all out there to catchup in wins/strikeouts but I can't see his era getting any better then 5.00 so just make sure you grab wins. Like the strategy already, it's never to early to win every week right.

You should pick up wins, strikeouts, era & whip - hopefully saves. Lose holds (even though, if you have room grab a mid reliever like Downs or Linebrink or whoever - try to get even with holds, while keeping your ERA & WHIP down. So your looking at a 5-1-2 week with pitching (unless you pick up a hold or two, and maybe a CG) - at worst your looking at a 4-2-2 week which isn't that bad either.

Match-ups, if I went with say three of your guys this week - not Liriano, maybe Felix, yes to Carlos, yes to Billingsley (at home vs COL), yes to Garza (already pitched well against NYY & BOS), maybe Lilly (tough to see back to back gems from him though) - those three should be good enough
