Anyone know the ETA on this guy? Someone in my keeper league dropped him and no one waisted a waiver on him...so I was able to get him without loosing my waiver spot. Am I missing something here though? This guy is already off to a great start in AAA ball this year...I though he is a must own in all keeper leagues.

It depends on how many keepers you have to make him a must own (i.e. 12 team, 6 keeper - probably not a must own). But I think he's worth picking up and stashing in most leagues (including redraft) because he should be up and starting before the AS break imo. And he brings good upside. Of course this is dependent on your league settings.

we have 5 keepers...but I still think he should be stashed. Who's his competition? Ben Francisco? I dont think he's playing 3rd anymore or is he?

Laporta was never an option at 3B. But yes some combination of Francisco, Garko, VMart, Hafner and Shoppach are his competition. The catcher situation (Vmart at 1B?) and Hafner's health cause ripple effects thru all of the positions. Ideally Laporta doesn't play LF but because of logjams at those positions he likely will. And he's good enough that when he's ready he'll force himself into the lineup.

Cleveland will be more than happy to bring him up sooner rather than later when they are continually losing games this year. I agree that LaPorta looks ticketed for the OF this season, and DH will be filled with pronk as long as he is hitting. It is interesting to note that V-Mart has an option year of $7 mil next year with a 250k buyout. Perhaps if LaPorta comes up and mashes, they might give him the gig at 1B and let Martinez walk (or perhaps trade him at the end of this year).

I just think that is fe is doing good in the minors and CLE continues to suck they will bring him up soon...in a month or 2. Maybe im wrong, but they wouldnt have anything to lose.

Can't see how they can go with Ben Francisco for most of the year when LaPorta is ready. I'm hoping he is a June 1st call up.

I'll go ahead an peg him at .270. He strikeouts out about twice as much as he walks, and he's been compared to Pat Burrell without the walks. I'd likin him more to a Jason Bay type. He'll need a couple years before he reaches that status though, expect top 40 OF talent.
