Chris perez was just called up to take Carpenter's place on the roster. I assume he'll start as a setup man and possibly work his way into the mix for closer duties if he looks good.

perez was still walking people in memphis so he didnt really fix the problem he was sent to there to work on. of course, most of the STL relievers arent looking too hot. franklin still has the edge, but who knows what the situation will look like a week from now.

Perez pitched the 7th and 8th. Two strikeouits and a walk. No hits allowed.
Motte finished with a scoreless 9th. Got a K.

Kind of odd....seems like Motte pitches at his best when he's got Perez around to compete with. (last year, spring training)

Or Motte had a small rough patch and LaRussa overreacted.

I predict that one month from now, Carpenter comes back as the closer.
