Pick up Lohse?

Postby DaShiz23 » Wed Apr 15, 2009 8:53 am

12 team 5x5 Roto; keep 6
c Posada
1b Adrian Gonzalez
2b Roberts
ss Rollins
3b Chris Davis
OF Braun
of Hamilton
OF Dunn
util Dye
BN Adam Jones
BN Justin Upton

Sp Oswalt
SP Greinke
RP Gregg
RP Corpas
P Balfour
p Downs
P Scherzer
BN Cliff Lee
BN Dempster
BN Derek Lowe

IP max is 1450. My closer situation is ugly, I know. Is it time to drop Upton? I would hate too, but Lohse has been impressive, and I do not see him on the WW much longer.

Upton may be going the way of Milledge, but for different reasons. Bob Melvin may want Upton to get regular ABs in AAA while he still has options. Your OF is pretty stacked, and you have Adam Jones.

I'm not really that high on Lohse, even after his stellar performance last year. He has a 4.63 career ERA and 1.40 career WHIP. Who else is available on the waiver wire? I like Anibal Sanchez better than Lohse if he's available. Lohse doesn't get strike outs either . . .
I'm Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!!

Anibal Sanchez AND Chris Perez are available.
Chris Perez intrigues me because all I can do, without overspending at this point, is go after speculative closers.
What ya think now?

I say get Chris Perez. He will prob be closing by May 15th. He is strengthening his shoulder in AAA. I believe that wa sthe only reason for his demotion. LaRussa likes him and he has closer experience. The STL bullpen situation is shaky and as history shows, LaRussa likes to use 1 closer, not a committee. I picked Perez up in my money league and stashed as my closer situation is a lot like yours. Sucks don't it? B-)

I wasn't impressed by Upton while he was here, either. I saw bust when I saw him play, but he does have the potential, down the road.

Lohse is nothing. Why would you cut Upton in a keeper. Sit on him.

In a 6 player keeper? He would have to turn it around something silly to move onto that list.
