Replacing Milledge (WHIR)

Postby Bjorne Greece » Tue Apr 14, 2009 7:00 pm

So now that Milledge is headed to the minors I'm thinking I may as well drop him for another option.

The 3 options I'm considering are 1) picking up Konerko for some 1B help, 2) Grab Elijah Dukes off waivers since he'll be a full time guy now and I'd think he can do very well with that or 3) grab a reliever that might take over a closers role at some point (some available are Nunez, Aardsma, Soriano)

opinions are welcomed

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm also dropping him. It's not like he'll go flying off waivers, so if things turn around, I figure I can always take him back, (and I have my doubts anyway).

Here are my thoughts:

1. Don't take Dukes. I mean, sure he'll be getting more time now, that's the positive way to look at it. Another way to look at it is: you're just dropping an unproven OF on a horrendous team, for another unproven OF on the same horrendous team. No better options on waivers?

2. I also have Zumaya. For the most part, I'm waiting him out and keeping my fingers crossed. I might take Ryan Madson while waiting, but for the most part my Milledge spot is now reserved for Zumaya. In the meantime, I figure Madson can lower my ratios and y'neverknow maybe Lidge will get hurt.

3. Konerko isn't available in my league.

Thoughts?

I would grab Dukes or another similar OF on the wire

you should be fine at 1B with Laroche and Lee. I mean I could see Konerko for Laroche so you dont have to wait for Laroches big 2nd halves

Dukes is a big time stud if he can stay healthy. When he plays, he produces. Its not like you are going to find much better on the WW right now. Maybe Shin Soo Choo....

Choo and Snider are both available on the FA list. So is Fowler, Rolen...some descent options.

Actually, Dukes has to clear waivers by tomorrow AM, I'm 11th out of 12 and I know #12 won't have a claim in on him.

It's probably between him and a reliever.

Id shoot for Dukes first. If you don't get him, I grab Konerko. Do you really want to fill more of your roster with MRs?
