my question is what makes a player good at scoring runs? its a fantasy stat so I gotta know what makes a player good at it. here's what I have found out.
hanley, pedroia, beltran, wright, berkman, mclouth, reyes, utley, granderson, holliday, roberts, markakis, howard, ludwick, peralta.
those are last years top 15 runs leaders.
4 of 15 hit leadoff last year.
15 of 15 batted in the top 5 of their lineup.
3 of 15 were mets
2 of 15 were Orioles
2 of 15 were Phillies
7 of 15 were in the top 15 in doubles last year.
so based on that info, being a leadoff hitter does not necessarily create runs scored. being in the top half of your lineup creates runs scored, getting extra base hits most definetely creates runs scored. being a Met creates runs scored.
strangely enough, the top 4 teams in runs scored were Rangers, Cubs, Red Sox, Twins. 1 player from those teams (pedroia) was amongst the league leaders in runs scored. the next three are Tigers, White Sox, and Indians. only Granderson and Peralta are on the list. meaning there are only 3 players in the 15 of runs scored that played on a team in the top 7 of runs scored.
i don't really know what to make of this information. except somehow playing on a team that scores a lot of runs does not necessarily translate into you scoring a lot of runs. strange fact, i know.
thoughts? imput?
