I'm not so sure about that. Chicago's a football town first and foremost.

Of course, then there are those of us who are blessed enough to find interest in both baseball and football, for whom the Bears and Cubs share equal ranking. ;-D

So who likes the Sox? If you grow up in the ghettos?
Hi, I'm Troy McClure! You might remember me from such nature films as "Earwigs: Ewwww" and "Man vs. Nature: The Road to Victory."

Pretty much.

Sox/Cubs is a class division.

The Cubs play on the North Side in the middle of coffee shops, bars, bookstores, and record stores.

The Sox play on the South Side in the middle of a war zone.

The upper-class white folks follow the Cubs and the working-class whites and most of the black community follow the Sox. Or more accurately, the upper-class white folks follow the Cubs, the working-class whites follow the Sox, and most of the black community follows the Bulls.
0-3 to 4-3. Worst choke in the history of baseball. Enough said.

Matthias' explanation is pretty spot on, but of course there are exceptions. My dad and cousin, for two. They both grew up in the suburbs, in reasonably affluent families, but they don't have the good sense to like the Cubbies. Some men you just can't reach.

I hold up the "classy" side of the family, and I'm raising my daughter as a Cubs fan, too. But her grandpa and cousin... well, every family has Black Sheep. :-°
