then try lee in another deal with a lesser pitcher for, say, kemp or someone ( lesser OF than hamilton). you clearly don't want to make this one. i like it for you because you're getting the best player in the deal (hamilton) and young looks good enough to make up some of felix's loss.
I would keep Lee and Hernandez for the time being. Hamilton may have been a consensus first round picker, and Lee a third rounder, but the moniker for Lee was always, "he'll give you a line similar to Hamilton, only two rounds later."
I think I'd still do it. The guy who said lee is better than Hamilton is clearly smoking rocks. Hamilton is the centerpiece of a very high - scoring, prolific offense. Meanwhile, lee is stuck on a craptastic Houston team, his finger is F'd up, and his numbers have been on the decline year after year. personally, I kinda like Chris young and I would probably do this.
I'd keep the Lee/Felix side. I don't believe there's too much to read into a repaired finger with Lee causing a major slump. At the end of the day, I can see Lee on par with Hamilton production-wise.
If the guy is willing to upgrade either Chris Young or RJ (let's say Nolasco, Wainwright, Danks), then I'd take it. I actually don't mind RJ, but I'm not a Chris Young fan, as he'll probably pan out as a home/away pitcher again, decent enough at home albeit sub-par away. I personally don't get all the pessimism about Felix; he's only 23 and has logged in close to or at 200 innings over the last three seasons. His ERA has gradually improved but if he can keep his walks to a bare minimum, Felix is a borderline #1/2 ace.
thanks for helping me. i think you should ask for a better 3rd option than randy johnson. you should be able to get a younger starter in the deal. other than that, i like the deal.

this is basically it.. me and other manager have tried other options. take it or leave it time.. atm im leaning towards taking it because i'd have 6 SP post trade ( Burnett, Vazquez, Young, Kershaw, Verlander, Randy) that i could use, making one of them expendable for a closer ( i think i need a third one).. will listen to a few more opinions, right now leaning towards pulling the trigger based on the fact i want nothing to do with lee this year even though im bullish on felix.
I don't think much of Chris Young as great return for Felix here ... I say find a way to make a two for one offer with CLee plus someone for Hamilton...
thanks for the help... still like the Lee/Felix side... you can't go wrong with a solid young SP like Felix 200 IP 3 years running is hard to find in alot of pitchers lately, and looking at his ERA hes decreased it each year of the 3, and also another quick stat that like also in '06 gave up 23 HR, '07 20 HR, '08 17 HR, a stat i really look at in pitchers the long balls have come down each year and 175 Ks look real nice to me, even with barely winning 10 games if he bumps that to 200 Ks with 14 wins thats close to a #1 to me, and Lee i mean for what your getting isn't worth giving up... RJ i think is solid, but the age and injury concerns are going to be there with him now and i do agree with a previous post Young is a nice option, but his below average away stats kill him, don't read into the hot start to this season too far... id stand pat unless he upgrades one of the 2 SP...
Noticed a lot of back and forth on this one. I think it comes down to whom you like better as players. IMO I like the deal and would run with it. I think highly of Chris Young and consider him in the same tier as Felix (Felix a bit higher in ranking) and while I also love Carlos Lee I think Hamilton should surpass his numbers easily this year especially in that awesome Texas lineup.
bazzy thanks for delving into the Felix side of things, i for one have no doubts about him and feel he can win 15 and K 200 this year. this trade is intriguing to me mainly because i want to get rid of lee, he was 12-61 with 1 HR combined between WBC and spring training now a terrible start to the year. For some reason I think his ceiling is something like 30 HR 100 RBI 80 Runs this year .280 avg. If he hadn''t broken his finger he was on pace for 39 HR 140 RBI, and thus i'd expect 35 HR and 125 RBi this year, but too bad he messed his finger up. Hamilton i see as 35 HR 125 RBI 10 SB 100 runs .300 this year, great #1 OF and first round player IMO. Young would fill in nice for Felix but a lot of things have to go right for him to do great, that is stay healthy something he hasn't done. he is capable of producing a low era around 3.30, with nice whip and about 170 Ks on a full year, wins he should be in the 10-12 range.. he is a few tiers under Felix IMO but he isn't a bad pitcher. Randy is more of a throw in in the trade, maybe he can produce 10 wins and 170 Ks if he turns it around that would be servicable but again doesn't do much to compensate for the loss of felix.
my personal expectations for the players:
Lee 30 HR 100 RBI 80 Runs .280 Felix 15 wins 3.30 ERA 200 Ks
Hamilton 35 HR 125 RBI 100 runs 10 SB .300 Young 11 wins 3.45 ERA 165 Ks Johnson 10 wins 4.10 ERA 150 Ks
