Time to dump Volquez?

Postby WabashMasher » Mon Apr 13, 2009 9:49 pm

10 man H2H.

I wasn't sure about drafting Volquez in the first place, and now he's killing me. I know it's early to judge SP, but I feel like I can get better value off the WW at this point in Kevin Millwood, Joe Saunders or Kyle Lohse. Last year I was able to get Cliff Lee off the WW after his hot start and I feel like Millwood or Lohse could have really great seasons.

edit: WANG is also on the WW, but I'm not about to dump one slow starting stinker for another.

He puts up numbers. I dunno if it was a fluke, or the league knows him now. It is up to him to make adjustments. Just hate for you to drop and he gets you 200 k's

The trouble is those 200Ks come with a super high ERA. I don't know I'd rather have a guy like Lohse who posts not as many Ks but an ERA that could be a whole point lower.

Cliff Lee had a freak breakout season. Don't expect middle of the road guys coming out of nowhere like that. Volquez is young, he'll struggle, but he's worth it. Yes, it's too early to give up on him.

You might freak out and trade Volquez, but it is a huge mistake to simply drop him. Hold for now, or send out trade offers for him if you want him off your team so badly. Just know that his trade value is significantly lower after today than it was a week ago.

I'm not a Volquez fan but I don't see any of those WW guys as being better. If you can show us your roster, you must have someone else you can drop if you want one of them.

If you don't want to keep Volquez, you should just sit on him and deal him when he has a couple of good starts. Nothing says you have to start him if you don't want to in the interim till he gives you one good start either.
