First game I ever went to was Twins/Tigers at Met Stadium and Fidrych was on the hill for the Tigers... that whole rookie year of his was also my first year of being a baseball fan and I've always had a place in my heart for that dude because of it. Sad to hear the news today, he was one of those players who seemed genuinely fun for teammates to be around and from all accounts was even that way towards people after his career ended in an untimely way. Sounds like a pretty bad way to go out too, that's very unfortunate.
I only got one thing left to say, man and that's:

RIP Bird.

To be honest, I'd never heard of him, but from the stories he sounds like a great character, a real credit to the game. 2 hour complete games? 24 complete games after May 15 that year? Going 10-1 in one stretch, that loss being a 1-0 complete game? Just seems superheroish by today's standards... definitely wish I'd seen him play.
