RIP Harry Kalas

Postby phillyphan12 » Mon Apr 13, 2009 2:23 pm

We suffered a devastating loss in the Philadelphia area today as Harry Kalas has passed away at 73. Just yesterday i watched the Phillies game as he called it, not knowing i was hearing him call a game for the last time...Aparently he collapsed in the announce booth a couple hours ago( The Phils game is at 3 today) and was rushed to the hospital and shortly pronounced dead...This is a horrible loss for all of us who grew up listening to his voice during games, and i can`t imagine watching a phillies game without his voice going along with it. The best announcer ever, and an even better person, RIP Harry Kalas, you will be missed.

"I do not think baseball of today is any better than it was 30 years ago... I still think Radbourne is the greatest of the pitchers." John Sullivan 1914-Old athletes never change.

I had the honor of working with Harry Kalas in the summer of 2005 and a nicer man I could not have met. Admittedly I got very sad during work today and had to step outside. I thought about the couple of times where we walked and talked a little bit of baseball on the way to the locker room. Knowing one of my heroes shared a little of his wisdom with me means a lot, and it's a memory I won't forget.

As I can remember saying one day: Thanks Harry, for everything.
Forget the man crush. I drop what I'm doing to watch Zack Greinke pitch.
