Pitching strategy

Postby Grouperman941 » Sat Apr 11, 2009 10:26 pm

I am beating my opponent 7-3. Every cat is a game, so I the final score counts, it's not just a W or L.

I am winning all but Ks. He cannot reach me in ERA unless he gets more than 9 shutout innings tomorrow. If he gets 9 perfect innings, he will beat me in WHIP by .01.

He has Beckett tomorrow. He also has Papelbon. I have C Young and Wandy Rodriguez going.

Should I bench my pitchers and be happy with the victory, or be aggressive and go for the shutout, with the chance I blow my ratios? I am down 7 Ks.

WWYD?

Being it is week 1. I would take the 7-3 and feel good.

Beckett is healthy which means he and Paplebon together could easily be good for 10 K's. You'd have to have a good outing by both Wandy and Young to match that, with a higher chance of one of them blowing up and ruining your era/whip, which, if Beckett pitches a winner, could lose you those cats.
