Blockbuster Trade question

Postby whitesox34 » Sat Apr 11, 2009 8:55 pm

I would be getting:

Prince Fielder
Dustin Pedroia
Carlos Marmol
Jason Motte

For:

Mark Teixeira
Cliff Lee
Bobby Jenks

Should I accept this trade? My current 2B is Mark DeRosa, and Pedroia would be an instant upgrade. My other closers are Brad Lidge and Kevin Gregg (who will more than likely lose the closer job to Marmol). So should I do it?

I like where you are headed with this trade, but Motte is pure crap, IMO. If your pitching staff is loaded, I lean towards making the deal.

Much as I like Tex, you HAVE to do this deal QUICKLY.
Think about this
You CAN argue that Tex adn Fielder are close enough to cancel each other out.
Your trading a potential bust (even though I believe in Cliff Lee) for a top end 2b and a huge upgrade to your starting lineup. Derosa can be a solid utility bat off the bench for your team and is a good insurance policy in tough leagues.
Motte is not garbage, he has electric stuff, you just have to give him a chacne to show you what he can do.
You already own Gregg and getting Marmol would handcuff the situation so you'd have yourself a low end #1 closer there no matter what happens and Lidge is your #1 guy so that covers you there. Nuff said, take the deal.
The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be!
