I could use an OF upgrade. He wants a SP. WHIR

Postby coma » Sat Apr 11, 2009 4:37 pm

My dad (fantasy baseball rookie) is an owner in my league has a surplus of outfielders. I mentioned what he would like for any of them and said he needs a good SP. Would it be wise to deal any of my SP's for any of these outfielders??
Rios, Crawford, Bay, Granderson, and Lind. He has to bench one because he only has 4 spots for them.

And here are available players if I wanted to swing a 2 for 1..
Available batters include: Milledge, Hunter, Werth, Zimmerman, Jones, Hawpe, Bonaficio
Available pitchers include: Slowey, Baker, Marmol, Saunders

8 team H2H league.
Hitter cats are R/H/HR/RBI/SB/AVG/OBP.
Pitcher cats are IP/W/SV/HR/K/ERA/WHIP.

8 team leagues are tough because of how shallow it is. Especially with no MI or CI positions and only 3 OF and 1 DH. Of the guys availble I like Slowey, and Pence.

I'd rank them like this:
Rios
Bay
Granderson
Crawford

Lind

Bay gives you the most power, but streaky and probably the lowest average (I'm not counting Lind from here on out)
Crawford of course gives you the most steals but I think you'll be ok there.
Rios is up there with Crawford in AVG but half the steals and twice the power. He's probably the guy I'd target and start by offering Bedard, if not, then ask Bedard plus what to get it done. If you do a 2 for 1, then pick up Slowey to replace Bedard..less Ks but A LOT better WHIP and better chances at some Ws.
Good luck, feel free to PM me

I too would try offering Bedard for Bay. You have a lot of speed, so Crawford or Granderson don't help you as much.

Bedard for Bay would not get the deal done.

With OBP, AVG and H all as categories, I'd target the player with the highest OBP, then the rest falls into place. I would go for Bay, which would leave one of your OF left on the bench.

Which one would/should you bench? I would think Hart.

So with that, I would offer Hart and Bedard for Bay. With the extra slot, go and get a decent pitcher with high strikeouts and great command (look for high K/9 and lower HR/9 pitchers - Randy Johnson?) through free agency. With 8 people in your league, your waiver wire for pitchers must look like a potential gold mine!
