Trade Hunter Pence for Huston Street?

Postby Neboguy » Sat Apr 11, 2009 1:14 pm

As some of you may know, I'm desperate for saves. The other owner also has Capps, Broxton, M.Gonzalez, Fernando Rodney, B.J. Ryan, and George Sherrill. I know, it's ridiculous, but he does this every year and then trades desperate owners like myself for stud position players. He also has Church, Daniel Murphy, Byrnes, Hermida, and Pierre. Should I counter with Hunter Pence for Broxton and Murphy?

Here's my team

pence for street is a bit much. Especially considering you have corpas, who will likely step into the closer role at some point this year.

pence for broxton is fairer IMHO. or for capps. whatever you do, don't panic just yet -- the season is young there are plenty of closers to be had before long ;-D

I wouldn't do Pence for Street, Broxton or Capps (or many other closers) for two reasons...

1. It is rarely worth it to trade for closers because cheap saves throughout the course of the year are so abundant. Your patience will be rewarded by picking up a couple of closers from the waiver wire (and when hopefully Devine comes back healthy). For now, you should just punt saves and wait for an opportunity to present itself.

2. Everyone is high on Corey Hart this year, and for good reason. But I think, in his third year, Pence can put up comparable, if not better, numbers than Hart. I say stick with him. He's a 5-cat stud.

But your closer situation does seem dire for the time being. If you're going to do any trade, pick up Broxton and Murphy. I'm not a fan of Capps or Street.
If Ozzie Smith can make the Hall, why can't Rey Ordóñez?
