Galarraga Worth a Look

Galarraga tore up a scary Rangers offense today. He finished with 7 innings, 5 hits, 1 run, and 8 k's. I liked this guy alot at the beginning of the season, but I also liked Manny Parra. At this point, I'd say Galarraga is a strong buy. If he's available in your league, pick him up.

8 K's against the Rangers lineup is noteworthy from anyone and he should certainly be flagged, but he had an extremely favorable BABIP last season and he's due for a major adjustment there based on last season's numbers.

I have followed the sabermetrics as well. I want to hate this guy. Everything says he should regress and suck...... but he continues to baffle. He looked good in the WBC and I took note. I picked him up before the season started to hold a pitching slot until ervin santana comes back and today and today I ran him out there. I won't say he is the real deal, but I will say there are always a few exceptions to the rule.

Having a low BABIP is a skill similar to having a high strike out rate. He makes guys hit pieces of crap off of their hands. He's worth a look. He has late movement on his slurve, along with very good command of his two seamer and slurve.

I'm not saying Galarraga is Maddux - but what was Maddux's BABIP? He should have sucked every damn year according to sabermetrics. BABIP is just a tool - don't make the error of seeing it as a final product.

He didn't look lucky in the WBC either. I will continue to use him until the stats say otherwise

I picked him up because I had the space, I will probably start him based on match ups. The fact that he did well against the Rangers is promising.

I had him almost the whole season last year, and I wasn't impressed in him. He's good for innings and K's half the time, more than often his ERA/WHIP are horrible. Unless you need a SP, I'd avoid him. I didn't think last year was a fluke, I just think he needs another year of two to mature into a star pitcher.
