Trade help needed. WHIR!!!!

Postby Chatrain57 » Thu Apr 09, 2009 7:23 pm

Ok, a couple of days ago I was offered Paul Maholm and Alex Gordon for my Chris B. Young (D-backs OF). Initially I declined it, but have been mulling it over for the last couple of days. I'm in need of a 3B, but I'm thinking that eventually Stewart will be starting everyday and that he can be my everyday 3B, and that I can use Adam Dunn light (Russell Branyan) until that day. BUT, the more I've been thinking about it, this might not be a bad deal for me. I have the depth at OF, so that really isn't the issue. I'm just not sure if that's selling Young low, or if that's fair value. (I also have one open roster spot, so I wouldn't have to drop anyone for the deal) Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated, and I'll return the favor, just leave me a link.

I really like that trade for you A LOT! Especially since you have an opening at 3B and all signs point towards Gordon having a good year. Maholm can also be a surprise pitcher this year. By doing that trade, you improve in BA and pitching, stay even in HR, and lose in SB - but it's worth it to me.

Maholm did look impressive against the cards. With the 2 for 1 though. You are going to have to drop someone. Obviously there isnt anyone on the WW for 3B. What about pitchers? Escobar is coming back mid may. He isnt by chance still on the WW is he cause that would make the maholm trade pointless IMO and you would be giving young for gordon which i dont think i'd do.

I would be tempted to do this.

Escobar is taken in my league. We're a 12 teamer with pretty decent bench depth, so there isn't much out there FA wise. Top 5 SP's are Ian Snell, Dave Bush, Randy Wolf, Tim Wakefield, and Bronson Arroyo. All of which don't do much for me at all!

it's a tough call. This is the way I look at it. With young, you're guaranteed at least 20-20. With Gordon, you MIGHT get 20-20. However, Gordon will hit for the higher average by like 20 points. However, your outfield is pretty good and you might be able to afford the slight drop in OF to upgrade your 3b. I would consider the trade, although i wouldn't be bummed about rejecting it.

I think I'd hold and see if I could work a better deal with maybe another club or counter with a diff outfielder and do a 1 for 1. Francoeur maybe for gordon? Depends on if you think fanco will rebound this year after last season.

I've pretty much scoured my league to see if anyone was interested in trading a 3B, and had no other takers, so I went ahead and re-sent the deal back to the other owner and it was accepted. I'm kinda really starting to like this for me. Think that it helps shore up 3B for me, and, gives me some flexibility later on in the season to possibly move a starter for an upgrade somewhere else if I need too.

Thanks for the help all!
