Is there a more arbitrary category than the W? I had two good starts this week ruined by a crappy performing bullpen. A starter can give up 10 runs in 5 innings and still get the W. A closer who blows a save in the 9th gets a W because his team scores a pair of runs in the 10th. WTF?

That's what we do in my league, we count quality starts over double the value of wins.

The problems: 5.2 IP, 0 ER and 9 IP, 4 ER
Quality starts should be redefined as "a starter who goes 4.2 IP or over and has a ≤4.50 ERA for the game".

Exactly right.
There are major flaws on both sides.
They really have to modify the stat (at least for fantasy purposes).

Because wins aren't important to a baseball team?

I don't mind wins -- they're fun.
