Too much for Lyon?

Postby chargersfan36 » Thu Apr 09, 2009 5:58 pm

Soria is my only closer. I've been trying to work out a deal with a guy who has Papelbon, K-Rod, M. Rivera, Ziegler, and Lyon. I thought I could get Lyon cheap. Here's the best offer he's given:

My Lowrie, Jurrjens, U. Jimenez for Theriot, Delmon Young, Lyon.

Should I try just Jurrjens for Lyon straight up?

My roster:
C - B. Molina
C - Napoli
1B - A. Gonzalez
2B - K. Johnson
3B - A. Ramirez
SS - Lowrie
CI - Ishikawa
MI - Bonifacio
OF - Hamilton
OF - Beltran
OF - Ludwick
OF - Span
OF - JD Drew
Util - Kotchman
BN - M. Cameron
BN - Lowell
DL - Glaus
P - Haren
P - Billingsley
P - Harden
P - C. Young
P - Jurrjens
P - U. Jimenez
P - Pieñeiro
P - Marmol
P - Soria
BN - empty (potentially Cahill/Anderson/Porcello/Davies)
DL - K. Escobar
DL - Devine

I don't really want Delmon and I'm already short on pitchers. Here's his staff:

Papelbon, K-Rod, M. Rivera, Ziegler, Lyon, Buehrle, Pettitte, Arroyo, Penny, Carmona, Penny (DL).

Give me your thoughts. WHIR.

You bet your ass that's too much for Lyon.

Hells bells dude - if that's what he's expecting in return for arguably the worst closer in baseball you need to just sit tight with Soria for a while.

Losing Lowrie is no big deal but to give up Ubaldo and Jurrjens is completely ridiculous. Lyon may not even have a job within the next week - that's how volatile his job is. Hell it's arguable if he even has a job now.

You'd never use Delmon in your lineup - not that he has any use anyway.

You're best advised to move onto a different, more reasonable trading partner. I wouldn't do Jurrjens straight up either. This is a non-starter.

+1

patience is key when it comes to closers. don't overpay, they'll always be available at different times. if you can, why not stash zumaya on the DL? odds are he'll be just as good if not better than lyon/rodney.
