Detroit Closer Situation

Do you think that when Zumaya gets healthy he will be in the running for the closer spot? If yes should I give up on chris perez for him?

I would probably hold Perez since he is slightly healthier and also competing for saves.

However if you have an open DL spot Zumaya isn't a bad DL stash for a couple weeks. I don't think anything is a given in Detroit's RP situation. If Zumaya can stay healthy and pitch well I gotta believe he'd have a shot at somepoint.

zumaya's certainly a better option than rodney or lyon if he stays healthy. ryan perry's someone who might eventually get involved, too.

You forgot to mention he's competing for saves in AAA. From what I read, I think in an ESPN chat, Perez will probably be in the minors until at least May. He's not really a good option, but then neither is anyone in Det. Zumaya has get a few chances to close the last few years and keeps getting looked at as inevitably taking over the role yet he's still not a closer. Furthermore they went out and signed Lyon, which tells you just how much confidence they had in Zumaya staying healthy and pitching well enough to close. This is basically pick your poison situation with a good possibility you'll lose out no matter which you pick.
