Webb to Miss Next Start

Brandon Webb (shoulder) will miss his scheduled start on Saturday.
Webb was still dealing with stiffness in his shoulder when he arrived at the ballpark on Wednesday, and was subsequently being sent to see the team physician. Manager Bob Melvin said the team will see how Webb is feeling on Thursday before making a decision as to whether or not tests will be necessary. Fantasy owners should get Webb benched for now and hope for a positive update soon. Yusmeiro Petit will take his place in the rotation on Saturday. Apr. 8 - 3:03 pm et

I sure hope that's the case, I have him on 3 different teams (4 total) and it's a mix of both roto and H2H leagues. I just hope this isn't going to be a big deal for the rest of the season. If it is then I'm completely screwed!!

It was believed that a deal was just about done then, so this explanation for the breakdown makes a lot of sense. Sources told Rosenthal that Webb passed a physical administered by the team, but that multiple insurance companies "raised concerns" when asked to cover the agreement.

THIS is more worrisome to me than him missing a start because of tightness. It's purely speculative at this point, but you have to wonder why the insurance companies had concerns. If it was just his workload in recent years, then I'm not concerned; lots of pitchers throw large amounts of innings for years without problems (Webb being one). But if they knew something about the structural aspects of his arm that the D-Backs didn't, then it could be a real problem.

It would be interesting to know what reasons the insurance company had. If it was more based on age/IP then it's not very concerning.
