Trade - R.Martin for Kemp

Postby windingwoods » Tue Apr 07, 2009 7:36 pm

I have Russell Martin and I'm trading him for Matt Kemp, is this good?

I think it's a pretty fair straight-up trade, assuming you have another C. With the position scarcity at C, you might have been able to get a little more for Martin, but I think Kemp will have a big year this year, so you did well.

Hope that helps!

I have Victor Martinez and Ryan Doumit and a thin outfield. I have Drew, Werth, F.Lopez, DeRosa and Francoeur. Also, Utley, Miguel, Theriot, and another jabroni or two. (if that fits into the equation)

I'd rather have Kemp over Martin any day and that hasn't changed. You already have V-Mart and Doumit anyway, which is more than good enough. Oh, and pay no attention to those folks who think Kemp will hit 7th all year.

id rather have Kemp over Martin in a heartbeat. Martin is one of the most overrated players in baseball. he gets so much love becuase hes a catcher who can steal bases, but one of the seasons hes going to steal less than 10 and become alot less valuable. hes never hit 20 HR. if he played any of position he would be average at best.
this is some of what razzball.com had to say about Martin before the season..
I don’t want to have anything to do with a catcher who gives you value because of some schmohawkian steals. You’d be surprised at how fast a 13/18 catcher can become a 12/7 catcher. You really want to draft Placido Polanco in the fourth round as your catcher?

so true. these top catchers go WAY to high! the next wave after the big 4/5 hold so much more value if you ask me. which you didn't, but I said anyways. :-D

If you have an alternative at catcher (which you do) then you should make the trade. Kemp is a better overall value. I would also look to deal either V.Martinez or Doumit for an upgrade elsewhere. There is no need to carry 2 catchers...and playing a catcher at Util isn't really a smart move.

I agree to this as well.
You did yourself nice with the catcher depth, now cash in! ;-D
