Seeking advice on a non-glamourous SP trade. WHIR

Postby Bonger » Tue Apr 07, 2009 10:52 am

So, I think I managed to convince myself that Carmona was my stud sleeper. Now I've been offered my choice of 2 pitchers for him. I can pick 2 of U. Jiminez, R. Johnson, and C. Young.

Convince me that I need to do this trade and take Young and RJ.

WHIR, just leave a link.

I think the four are all roughly equal. I would take Jiminez and Young. If the four are equal, then you getting two for one is clearly a very good deal. Jiminez and Young are the two best of the four in my opinion. RJ is a major risk because of his health. Jiminez and Young are both solid....I happen to like Carmona too, but if you get two for one in a deal where the four are equal, how do you pass that up?

I actually like both Jimenez and Young over Carmona this year. No doubt about it, getting Young and Jimenez for Carmona i an excellent deal for you. I'd be careful with Young on the road though, as he's a flyball pitcher and a lot of those flyballs get lost at PetCo, but other places thy tendto leave the yard. RJ i certainly a health concern with his aging and brittle body though, and Carmona is just "meh." He won't get you strikeouts, and when his sinker isn't working he's gonna get lit up like a candle.

Give me Young and Ubaldo all day long.

Jimenez and Young are the two best pitchers out of the three. Take those two.

Appreciate the help on mine.

To tell you the truth, I actually like the other three more than Carmona. Each of the other three offer a higher K/BB ratio. Carmona probably has the decided advantage in Wins, but he can be frustrating too when he walks people. I never like choosing pitchers for wins. Indian's probably aren't a sure lock contender this year either unless Cliff Lee and Hafner play like in their prime. I personally would do with RJ and Young, these guys will provide you excellent K's ratio and good ERA and WHIP when healthy. Ubaldo has the best stuff, but he hasn't really put together a good season. He had decent numbers last year, but his WHIP was not so great. I wouldn't try and search for the next best thing with Ubaldo, when you have a pretty sure-fire veteran in RJ. I might be biased because RJ was one of my targets in the draft. Got him in the 18th round. As long as you have bench spots for pitchers, I would go with Young and RJ.

If you are determined to go with Ubaldo, it's probably a coin flip between Young and RJ. I'd still probably take RJ in his new big park.

Thanks for the help.

I would take Ubaldo for sure, kinda of a coin flip between Johnson and Young. Johnson staying healthy would be my chief concern, so with that in mind I would prob take Young.
