Just wanted to see what some other people thought about him heading into this year? He's a former 1st rd pick that threw about 180 ings combined between the majors and minors last year. He did have an 8 ing 11 k effort against the Rays! He's had a very solid spring with an ERA under 2. I believe he's slated to be the #3 although maybe #2 starter for TOR. Perhaps instead of rolling the dice on unknowns like Cahill and Zimmerman, Purcey should get more pub?

Thanks for the heads up. After confirming what you said about his Spring and Minor League numbers he's certainly worth keeping an eye on!

Eh, not that excited about a 27 year old with 4.07/1.38 in the minors, even if his K/9 is a tick above 9. Show me Ian Snell circa 2006?

Well command is the big issue with him...but if you notice, he's consistently gotten better the last couple of years. In AAA last yr he threw 117 ings with 121 ks and a 2.69 era and 1.12 whip.
Yeah he got knocked around a bit last year once he hit the bigs, but he also had a few really good starts. My central point was that maybe here is a guy worth a flier that has already experienced the growing pains that Cahill, Zimmerman, Anderson, etc. have not....

decent first start....7 ings, 5 ks, 3 ers but the manager probably should have pulled him after the 6 ing considering the high pitch count so early in the season. either way, ill take it...he pitched better than some guy named lincecum i also have on my team that i thought was good.

Yeah...if he controls his walks a bit better (like he did last year in AAA), he has a chance to be very good. His stuff is certainly good enough.

Decent start today against the Tigers but they have an average at best offense so I wouldn't buy much into it yet (yeah I said it, this is not a good offense~).
