Do I need to trade for some closers before it's too late?

Postby chargersfan36 » Sun Apr 05, 2009 11:35 pm

12 team roto league, 5x5 stats. I didn't do enough homework before my draft and now I'm suffering the consequences. My only closer is Soria and I'm really concerned about falling too far behind in saves. Do I deal Soria and punt saves or should I try to grab a few closers now and see my hitting or SP suffer?

My roster:
C - B. Molina
C - Napoli
1B - A. Gonzalez
2B - K. Johnson
3B - A. Ramirez
SS - Lowrie
CI - Lowell
MI - C. Guzman
OF - Hamilton
OF - Beltran
OF - Ludwick
OF - Span
OF - JD Drew
Util - Kotchman
BN - M. Cameron
BN - Ishikawa
DL - Glaus
P - Haren
P - Billingsley
P - Harden
P - C. Young
P - Jurrjens
P - U. Jimenez
P - Pieñeiro
P - Marmol
P - Soria
BN - empty (potentially Cahill/Anderson/other)
DL - K. Escobar
DL - Devine

So which is it? Punt saves or try to grab some closers now? Or do I stand pat and scrounge the WW for closers for a month. Thanks.

I definitely wouldn't punt SV because Soria at the very least will be worth a point in the category. I also believe that Marmol will be getting the job at some point. I have no faith in Gregg. There are a lot of volatile CL situations right now so depending on your league there may be some options for you (Rodney, Ziegler, etc.) I'd also consider a pair like Putz/Balfour if it's available; a mini-ace that will probably net you 5-10 more SV throughout the year. I have a similar situation in a Roto league where I drafted K-Rod/Marmol.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
