Why doesn't everyone pitch Howard like Lowe does

Postby Polar Bear » Sun Apr 05, 2009 8:51 pm

Lowe only throws sliders against Howard and Howard can do nothing with it. Watching that exchange was like watching a video game and finding a glitch in the game and using it against the computer. I thought the ump may actually tell Lowe to stop it. They threw up a stat which indicated Lowe's ownership of Howard and this is all he throws.

I know every pitcher cannot throw a slider, but if they can I would keep throwing it until he actually hit it.

Well, with 200 Ks, I think quite a few pitchers do pitch that way. :-b

20% of pitches to Howard are sliders, compared to a league average of 15-16%.

Howard usually gets the breaking ball treatment.
Here's the pitch on the way, a swing and a belt! Left field! Way back! BLUE JAYS WIN!

It's basically the way everyone pitched him in the playoffs/WS last year and I expect he'll get even more of it this year. Problem is that weaker pitchers don't have the command to consistently do it the way Lowe does, so they either hang a breaking ball or fall behind and have to throw fastballs.

Yeah, Lowe had great command of his pitches last night.

I think everyone should try to ship off Howard now that he's exposed and won't be able to hit at all this year.
