Better Closer: Motte or Cordero?

Postby Strokin Shortstop » Sun Apr 05, 2009 10:44 am

I have Papelbon as my #1 and Cordero as my #2. I've got my reservations about Cordero, and Motte is currently on the waiver wire. Should I pick him up and drop Cordero?

at this point you have to stick with the proven commodity in Cordero

angels7777 .. are you saying that because of Motte's uncertainty as a closer only or from potential as well? I am a little afraid of both (Motte's role and Cordero's health - he looks shaky from offseason surgery). Thanks for the help!

Anyone else with thoughts?

Are you locked into one or the other? Does your league only have 2 RP and no P slots or is your team just so stacked that no one else is droppable?

It's a roll of the dice either way. One injury prone, and one with a lot of unknowns. I'd go Cordero just due to expierience.

Pretty close DTChiefs .. We have only 3 reserve spots and have to start to RPs. In a 10-team league, most of the closers are taken obviously. I'm pretty cramped for space because I'm trying to keep at least one starter (Chris Young), one backup to a vital position (2B-Weeks), and one breakout candidate (Gordon).

There are other RP choices out there on the waiver wire that I could go with (Morrow, Capps, etc.), but I'd like to hedge my bets a bit -- main problem is that I'm a Cards fan and they have not had a great closer for a while. I want to have faith in Motte a little too much maybe and I need help to make sure I'd make a good decision by picking Motte up.

Sorry for the ramble!

What about Mike Gonzalez (ATL)? He is available on waivers.

Definitely drop Weeks and grab Capps, forget about Gonzalez. I'm not that big of a fan.

It's tough man, you really love the upside of Motte, his arm, etc. But, Cordero had a good year (last year) until the last month or so and he's experienced, but he still comes with negatives. I'm a gambling man, so I'd go with Motte. Also, you have to get Capps, ASAP.

Help me out?

I agree. Definately grab Capps.

I also like Morrow over Cordero. They guy has filthy stuff.
