need for speed - bourn or crisp?

Postby The Mighty Trow » Sun Apr 05, 2009 12:30 am

This is for a team that is short on base stealers, as a replacement for Devine.

The league counts Triples and OBP (not average) as categories.

Both are having very good springs...

Who do I take?

Crisp easily for me. Bourn will give you a handful more steals but it isn't worth his unfathomable OBP.

I, too, think Crisp is your guy...Batting lead off for the Royals this year is a good position for him...On the subject of CoCo Crisp, would you rather have him or Carlos Gomez??

12 team H2H (normal) 5x5 league- Roster:
C - Russ Martin
1B - Justin Morneau
2B - Jose Lopez
3B - ARod (Mike Lowell until ARod returns)
SS - Jhonny Peralta
OF - Adam Dunn
OF - Hunter Pence
OF - Delmon Young
OF - Jeff Francoeur
Util - James Loney
Util - Billy Butler
BN - Lastings Milledge
BN - Carlos Gomez
BN - Mett Weiters

SP - CC Sabathia
SP - Scott Kazmir
SP - John Lackey
SP - Erik Bedard
SP - Joba Chamberlain
RP - Jonathon Pappelbon
RP - Francisco Cordero
RP- Chris Ray

both have speed. bourn will steal more bases for sure. crisp's OBP is better. i'd look at their prospective batting order spots, and take the guy who is batting up toward the top of the order. i assume they are both leading off or batting 2nd, but i would check. i tend to go for the higher risk guy, so i'd probably take bourn here.

help me out please: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=376452

thanks for the help, guys.

Gomez is only 23, and his average will hurt you. Though you do have a team that hits for a low average... if you want to bolster that, i'd grab Crisp. If you want to run the risk of a few more steals on the year, I'd go for Gomez. I think Crisp is the smart money though.

Gomez
Bourn
Crisp

in that order if you're looking for speed. The batting average difference between the three is not very large; they'll all hit around .260 with a .320 OBP.

I respectfully disagree with that last statement....Bourn is a career .237 hitter with an OBP that is actually slightly UNDER .300....Those are pretty pathetic numbers...Crisp is a career .280 hitter with an OBP slightly ABOVE .330 and a career OPS 130 points higher than that of Mr. Bourn....Sure, Bourn will get you maybe 10-12 more stolen bases a year, but at what cost!!
