Target which 1B? - WHIR

Postby oxhammer » Sat Apr 04, 2009 2:36 pm

I learned that another team REALLY wants Sandoval or a closer for Mauer. I might be able to use that to my advantage. But, there is another trade that would help me upgrade at 1B without having to give up quite as much...if it would go through. There's a third trade option as well. Here's what I could offer:

Nady/Lester for Votto
Quintin/Sandoval for Mauer/Berkman
Quintin/Sandoval/(Hernandez or Billingsley) for Mauer/Berkman/Chamberlain
Quintin/Hernandez for A Gonzales/(Liriano or Beckett)

If I did the first trade, it would allow me to pick up Duchscherer and stash him on my DL. I can also pick up Parra, Carmona, Wandy, or Buehrle in the meantime. I wouldn't offer the 3rd trade unless the 2nd trade didn't go through. Which trade do you think turns out best for my team?

Twelve Team, Standard 5x5 Roto, No Keepers

C - Pablo Sandoval
1B - Conor Jackson
2B - Brandon Phillips
SS - David Wright
3B - J.J. Hardy
OF - Carlos Quentin
OF - Matt Kemp
OF - Xavier Nady
DH - Daniel Murphy
BN - Jason Giambi
BN - Coco Crisp

SP - Jake Peavy, Chad Billingsley, Erik Bedard, Jon Lester, Félix Hernández, John Maine
RP - Joe Nathan, Mike González, Chad Qualls, Jason Motte

I would definitely do the trade for Mauer/Berkman. Mauer is a tad risky due to health issues, but he is legit when he does play. You get an upgrade at both positions. The only question is if he will accept!

I would do the second trade also b/c IMO you are upgrading when Mauer gets back to full health. I fully expect Mauer to return in the lineup in a week or two tops. I am not sure if the other owner would go for this trade -but now is a good time to trade Sandoval as his stock is soaring. I would take Mauer over him any day.

I def don't like the 1st and 3rd offer at all. THe fourth is not bad. I would ask for Beckett instead of Liriano.

Good Luck.

You can't trade Nady and Lester for Votto can you? I'd do the second trade, even though you are probably downgrading at C because of Mauer's injury because Berkman is a top talent and is proven.

Add another vote for the 2nd option...and hope that Mauer comes back 100%.

Mauer/Berkman also! I think you will have a tough time pulling that one off.
