Use #1 waiver spot on Wieters?

Postby redpucks12 » Sat Apr 04, 2009 8:56 am

Someone dropped him. Unsure how well he'll play this season. Please help. (10 team league) I was thinking of dropping Gordon for him.

My team:

C: Sandoval
1B: Teix
2b: A. Ramirez
3B: Martin
SS: Jetter
OF: Braun, Crawford, Hunter
Util: Matsui
BN: Aviles, Carlos Guillen, Maybin, A. Gordon

SP: Peavy, Liriano, Billingsley, Oswalt, Greinke
RP: Ryan, Gonzalez, Motte
BN: Smoltz, Carpenter
DL: Hoffman

Don't drop Gordon. I'd take him for Carlos Guillen though.

Dude, you're not really gonna play Martin at third are you, third basemen in your catcher spot are ok, catchers in your third base spot are....well just dumb. Both Gordon/Guillen are better for you at third and they're both a better choice at DH than Matsui (either of 'em). If you really feel you need to have 3 catchers on your roster - drop Matsui. Ok, now that you have 3, count 'em 3 catchers - TRADE one of 'em.

I have to agree. Pick up Weiters and try to trade Martin. Martin has so much more value as a catcher than a 3rd baseman.

You have Martin and Sandoval. I personally wouldn't bother but if you want I would go ahead and start shopping Martin now. Sandoval is going to be a valuable C and then you can have Wieters move in in six weeks or whatever it is.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Yeah, im thinking of seeing if Wieters clears waivers, which will probably not happen. I see Sandoval hitting .300-.320 with about 10-15 HR's. That guy is amazing with the stick (that's what she said), and Martin, I think will hit about the same as Wieters (15-20 HR, .290). Maybe a higer average. I think with my team, I need more power.

Another question.. any new information on Helton brewing? I read his back is alright and he could have a productive year. He's still available. Could be a nice backup 1b.

He proposed his Longoria for my A. Ramierez and Martin. I'll probably reject.

Update: I got him for free! He cleared waivers and since Smoltz went on the DL and two slots in league settings, I scooped wieters this morning. Thanks to all who helped!
