Drop Aviles or Weeks? Or Stewart?

Postby Berg » Fri Apr 03, 2009 8:30 pm

I'm in a 5x5 roto league using OBP, and I need to clear roster space so I have to drop one of these guys. I like the fact that Aviles has 2B/SS eligibility, but as far as production he seems to have the least potential of the three - and unlike Weeks and Stewart he is not keeper-eligible. Weeks looks like he could finally be living up to his potential (if he can stay healthy), and if so I'll have a 20/20 2B for a long time - but then again he might continue to have a disappointing career. Stewart doesn't have a regular gig right now, but he'll probably get multi-position eligibility and he might have the best long-term potential of the group - I just don't know if he'll get enough playing time to be a reliable player this year. Anyway, I was just looking for opinions to help me make a decision on which two to keep. All advice is appreciated and WHIR.

Do me a favor an dont believe what any book has told you,What you may have seen on tv and what any website has projected,Rickie weeks is a bum.The guy has been around long enough to show he is a failure. He was suppose to have a breakout year the last 4 years an keeps battin lower every year.Aviles is the real deal.Check out his minor league numbers an remember he didnt gte called up til late last year .Stewart will play alot at colorado. My opinion i drop weeks.at least you wont have to worry about a guy batting .240 no matter what he hits or steals

I think that Weeks is a bum as well. Drop him.

Count me as another who thinks Aviles is the real deal. Aside from power, his ceiling is higher across the board than Weeks' constant injury-prone a$$.

no no no....keep Weeks.

.363
.374
.342

Weeks' OBP for the last three years. Aviles had a .354 OBP last year on a .325 batting average. He's completely BA dependent, and if he drops 20 points of average (would that surprise anyone), you're dropping below where Weeks is going to be from an OPB standpoint. If, on the other hand, Weeks brings his average up to just .260 (would that surprise you), then you're talking about a .375+ OBP. From a guy that is almost a lock to be 15/20.

I agree that Weeks is a mammoth liability in a batting average league, but since you have OBP as a replacement, he's FAR more valuable than Aviles (who is going to regress this year, I promise).

Weeks is very underrated now, and much better talent than Aviles. Keep Stewart for upside as well. Drop Aviles who is mostly waiver fodder IMO.
