now there is still a chance that the interested Phillies or Reds get him if they offer him a 2nd year, but it doesn't look likely and it says Sheff chose the Mets because they will be giving him more playing time as an alternate to Ryan Church in RF and Daniel Murphy in LF...

Mets signed him today for 400k 1 yr deal

Hes expected to platoon in the OF as the 4th guy getting a "signifigant number of bats" . Mets plan to release Anderson.

Prob Platoon w/ the Church/Tatis system while insurance for Murphy. He also could come in at 1b from time to time for Delgado.

Prob no fantasy value tho.

According to this article, he'll be conditioned to being an everyday player again. The epitome of low risk high reward if you ask me. I nabbed him in the last round of our draft when he was a Tiger, and was on the verge of dropping him depending on where he landed. But now I'm actually excited to hang onto him and see what kind of chemistry he has with his new club.

I wouldn't be all that excited about picking up Sheff right now. I don't see where or how he's going to be an everyday player again for the Mets. He's 40 years old now and clearly on the downside of a very good career. I think 4th OF and top pinch-hitting role on the bench is about as much as you'll get out of him now. He doesn't hit like he used to and is very limited in the field, plus from what I saw in tonight exhibition game with the Red Sox Citi Field is pretty big in the OF (especially in RF) so there is a lot of ground to cover out there.I don't see Sheff being able to do that at this point of his career. I think he'll be mostly a bit player but that's it.

I doubt it... at 40 he won't be playing outfield everyday. He'll only play against lefties and pinch hit. With Mets pichting rotation as shaky as it is we don't need balls dropping over Sheff's head too. Church will platoon with Sheff and replace him late in games as a defensive upgrade.

I'm a little more optimistic. It's the first time in years he hasn't had surgery in the off season, and he says he feels good. I also read he always wanted to be a Met. Not to say that makes him any younger! But it adds a little personal motivation to perform well.

I don't think there is too much more to add on the topic that I can think of, other than personal opinions, which he'll soon prove right or wrong starting in just a few days.

The Mets like Murphy and Church / Tatis Platoon. We needed a bat , and Shef gives us one better then Marlon Anderson.

Mets are my team and Ive been following this very closely. He wont start, I watched Minaya's interview last night during the Exhibition game and it was pointed out more then once.
